Bodega El Enemigo


According to Argentine winemaker Alejandro Vigil, there are two different stories about why the wines made at his own project, alongside Adrianna Catena (Bodega Catena Zapata), are called “El Enemigo” (The Enemy) (Mendoza, Argentina). The first version is not very nice, and a bit of a joke; they say it came from when his son was born.

The joint efforts of Adrianna Catena (historian and passionate about the land) and Alejandro Vigil (oenologist and agricultural engineer) have given rise to a new gem from El Enemigo, the project they share, called Gran Enemigo Agrelo Single Vineyard, a red of historic character and revolutionary profile, a wine which soaks up tradition and rebels against resistance to change.

The award-winning El Enemigo was created when Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena, Nicolas's youngest daughter, decided to create the Aleanna winery, in the high-altitude wine region of Mendoza, to rescue some of the forgotten traditional techniques of Argentine viticulture.

El Enemigo is an elegant, discreet and deep wine with aromas of chocolate and malted grains which seduce you even before you take your first drink. It is an excellent Mendoza wine and, above all, an example of thoroughness in wine production.

Rich and concentrated, it offers aromas of black fruit, cherry and dark berryfruit on the nose followed in the palate by a full-bodied wine with flavors of spice, blackberry, black cherry, pepper and a slight floral character. The finish is elegant and lengthy.
