Specifications

Classification: Medoc Premier Cru Classe (First Growth)

Bottle size : 750ml

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon 90%, Merlot 8%, Cabernet Franc 2%

Colour: A dense and opaque, almost black colour with a very attractive glint.
Aroma: The nose, patrician, refined, complex and expressive, mingles black fruit with aromas of blackcurrant and crushed blackberry, opening with airing to display more complex notes of cigar box and spice.
Palate: The attack is sumptuously full and substantial. The tannins are mature and crisp, enveloped in a beautiful body, dense and firm, that reveals chocolate and vanilla flavours. The wine displays an irrepressible panache that leads into an utterly lovely, fresh, intense and mineral finish.

In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, wishing to serve his own wine to his prestigious guests, buys Château Brane-Mouton at an auction. The estate, at Pauillac in the heart of the Médoc, will henceforth bear his name: Château Mouton Rothschild.

In 1973, Mouton was elevated to “first growth” status after decades of intense lobbying by its powerful and influential owner. This prompted a change of motto: previously, the motto of the wine was Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis. (“First, I cannot be. Second, I do not deign to be. Mouton I am.”), and it was changed to Premier je suis, Second je fus, Mouton ne change. (“First, I am. Second, I used to be. Mouton does not change.”)

In 2003, Château Mouton Rothschild celebrates its 150th anniversary. Baroness Philippine left Mouton magnificently enlarged and modernised. Now her three children are united in the same ambition.
